FAQ - Worship Resources
Q How long is each session?
A Each session takes 90 minutes. The Participant Guide gives suggested time frames for each of the discussions and activities that are part of each session, and these total 90 minutes.

Q Is there any way we can see some of the DVD material?
A Yes, see the ‘Samples’ tab. Here you can see inside the Participant Guide and see samples of the DVD material.
---------------------------
Q Can I buy just the Participant Guide on its own?
A Initially we sell the kit to churches which includes one Participant Guide and a Supplementary Guide for the Pastor/Leader and a DVD. Once churches have bought this they can buy as many extra Participant Guides as they want. However we don’t sell the Participant Guide on its own as an initial purchase – it wouldn’t be of much use without the Supplementary Guide and the DVD.

Q Is it crucial for the pastor/church leader to do One Step Ahead with the worship leaders?
A Yes! One Step Ahead opens up new possibilities for how church services can look. It would be unrealistic and unfair on your pastor/church leader to attempt to make those decisions without him/her there. As a unit the pastor/church leader and worship leaders represent a powerful tool for change.

Q Don’t worship leaders struggle with the idea of coming out to another meeting?
A You may be surprised on this one. I’ve always found that when you get worship leaders together who are passionate about what they do, the conversation is dynamic. I find I have to shut them up rather than coax them! Good training sessions where they go away with new ideas and inspiration are like petrol in their tank. The times when my worship leaders seem most lacking in energy and inspiration are generally the times when we’ve gone longest without being able to meet. We need to upskill and train if we want to see positive change.

Q Why did you call it One Step Ahead?
A If we are leading God’s people in worship we ought to be one step ahead of the people we are leading. We should know more about worship in the Bible and different forms of worship than the people in our congregation, as well as discovering the skills to bring these things alive.

Q Why did you put this course together?
A That’s a big question! All told it’s taken me 11 years to create this material. In part I felt sorry for worship leaders, of whom so much is expected. I read endless articles, books and ‘letters to the editor’ in Christian magazines about the problems with worship today, yet no-one seemed to be providing solutions that could take root in local churches.
